TEHRAN - A Majlis Deputy from Ahvaz, Khuzestan Province, elaborated on President Mohammad Khatami's first term and the performance of his government during the past four years.

Jasem Shadidzadeh said the important points of success in Khatami's administration were development of relations with European and neighboring countries and settlement of the country's foreign debts. Such measures have led to stability in Iran's stance vis--vis the foreign relations, he added.

The MP reiterated, "Had the obstacles and problems in the way of Khatami's programs been removed, his government could have won more achievements." Shadidzadeh said that in his future government, President Khatami had better focus on economic crises, especially unemployment and should stop giving top priority to political development.

He stressed that the three branches of government should cooperate with each other and undertake serious action against the eradication of existing administrative corruption.

Shadidzadeh said that Khatami should endeavor to make an all-out effort for development in the country, especially in the fields of economy and culture. But the president holds the view that political development is the base for any kind of progress, he added.
